A California congresswoman is pointing the finger at white supremacist groups, who she says have inspired Arizona’s new law cracking down on illegal immigrants.

Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., told a Democratic Club on Tuesday that white supremacist groups are influencing lawmakers to adopt laws that will lead to discrimination.

“There’s a concerted effort behind promoting these kinds of laws on a state-by-state basis by people who have ties to white supremacy groups,” said the lawmaker, who is of Mexican descent. “It’s been documented. It’s not mainstream politics.”

Sanchez said front organizations for white supremacist groups are approaching lawmakers to propose the language to the bills and urging them to push them through state legislatures in an effort to legalize discrimination.

“It creates a Jim Crow system where based on the color of your skin you could be treated as a second-class citizen or harassed based on how you look,” she said.

The Arizona law, which makes it a state crime to be in the country illegally, requires police enforcing any other law to question people about their immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” that they are in the country illegally.

Supporters of the law say it will save taxpayer money and reduce crime by pressuring illegal immigrants to self-deport. But critics say the law is unconstitutional and promotes racial profiling.

Rep. Gary Miller, R-Calif., told the Whittier Daily News, which first reported the story, that Sanchez’s comments are “an outrageous accusation.”

“It’s trying to find somebody somewhere you can accuse of something,” Miller told the newspaper. “It’s red herring. (She’s) trying to change the debate from what the law says.”

A spokesman for Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who will meet with President Obama Thursday to discuss immigration and border security, also criticized Sanchez’s comments.

“Gov. Brewer signed S.B. 1070 because it mirrors what is already federal law and because our federal government has failed to secure our international border, leading to Arizona become a super highway of illegal drug and human trafficking,” Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman said in an e-mail to the newspaper.

Sanchez told the newspaper after her speech that she based her accusation on online stories, particularly a blog written by Andrea Nill, an immigration researcher for ThinkProgress, an offshoot of the liberal Center for American Progress Action Fund.

Nill wrote that the Immigration Law Reform Institute, the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), helped write the law. The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled FAIR a hate group, a designation that the organization disputes.

Mexico Providing Illegals With ID In California

As if it was not outrageous enough to have the President of Mexico stand in the chambers of Congress and ridicule America for allowing Arizona to pass their criminal invader bill and calling on our government to trash the second amendment, we now have the country of Mexico issuing IDs to illegals right here in Mexico.  Sounds unbelievable, but it is true.  The Washington Examiner reports:

The Mexican government is opening a satellite consular office on Catalina Island — a small resort off the California coast with a history of drug smuggling and human trafficking — to provide the island’s illegal Mexican immigrants with identification cards, The Washington Examiner has learned.

The Mexican consular office in Los Angeles issued a flier, a copy of which was obtained by The Examiner, listing the Catalina Island Country Club as the location of its satellite office. It invites Mexicans to visit the office to obtain the identification, called matricular cards, by appointment.

Later the story was updated and has become more outrageous:

Mexican government officials have moved their satellite consular office from the Catalina Island Country Club to a Catholic Church – citing protection under the Geneva Convention.

 

 

Matricular Consular ID cards are issued to illegals living outside of Mexico by the Mexican government.  They are only provided to criminal invaders because, obviously, legal immigrants can obtain proper legal United States identification.

 

What is also unbelievable is that this card is accepted by American businesses and our government as ID.  This crap is phony!  Bank of America came under fire in 2007 when they announced they would accept the cards and issue loans to people presenting those cards.  And yet, Mexican banks do not accept the Matricular Cards.  Our borders are left wide open, Arizona is ridiculed and Mexico is handing out IDs here.  Where the hell are we living?

Look at the world through the eyes of Hamas and its apologists, and ask yourself: what’s the point of sending a couple of boats full of terror “activists” to run the Gaza blockade?

The short-term benefit is obvious. Israel is placed in another no-win situation. If the Israeli military had allowed the Terror Flotilla to cruise on its way, they would have displayed a dangerously provocative weakness. Enforcing the blockade brought the Israelis into contact with armed and determined terrorist agents. When the IDF commandos defended themselves, a credulous global media was ready to write stories of “peace activists” being “massacred,” as Hamas desired. Within twenty four hours, regimes noted for the regular murder of their captive subjects were at the podium of the United Nations, denouncing a democracy for defending its borders. I have yet to see a major media figure ask how many of the countries denouncing Israel would respond to an invading flotilla by sending in a squad of guys with paintball guns.

The long-term strategy behind the Terror Flotilla is more troubling, because the pieces in that game are moved by the skeleton hand of anti-civilization… and it is winning.

The central flaw in Western liberal foreign policy is the naïve belief they can construct a civilization without enemies. No amount of multicultural babble, foreign-aid payoffs, or servile bows before foreign leaders can accomplish that task. Every society has both rivals and enemies. Rivals have plans which extend beyond victory in any given contest or campaign. The conquerors of old were looking to assemble empires, and the most successful of them made efforts to incorporate the people and cultures they overwhelmed. Not even the rowdiest English king planned to exterminate the French.

Anti-civilization is different. It destroys without assimilation. It learns nothing from its enemies, studying them only to find weaknesses it can exploit. In ancient times, it took the form of barbarian reavers, who looked upon graceful cities full of art and music and felt nothing but hunger and contempt. The industrial age refined anti-civilization into a powerful black oil, fueling massive engines of murder. It learned to wear crisp uniforms, and build concentration camps. It orchestrated decades of mechanized slaughter, with an atomic finale. By the end of the twentieth century, it had learned to manufacture terror, and transform the wonders of the civilization it hates into firebombs that could level mighty skyscrapers.

Anti-civilization stands opposed to the crucial idea that animates civilization: the belief that human life has value. It took a long time for both Western and Asian civilizations to fully understand this concept, but even in their infancy, they were dimly aware of its power. Mankind tended a garden of thought that grew for thousands of years, nourished by growing concepts of limited rule and transcendent rights, until it finally produced the most succulent fruit of the Enlightenment, the United States Constitution. Civilization begins with respect for the lives of others… the recognition that other people cannot be casually butchered for the slightest of reasons. Focusing this understanding to the elegant modern respect for individual dignity is the work of centuries, but the very concept of law is rooted in the most primitive incarnation of that respect.

It is this core value of respect for life that anti-civilization rejects. It dreams of Final Solutions and drowning its enemies in blood. It’s not just carless of civilian casualties… it deliberately inflicts them, as a matter of policy. It is ravenous for innocent blood, because it knows it can only defeat the superior intellectual and physical power of civilized nations through atrocities. It defeats mighty nations by murdering their children, and mutates its own children into bombs to achieve that purpose.

Anti-civilization can only succeed with the assistance of traitors from within the ranks of its civilized enemies… and it never has trouble finding them. Every society breeds people who refuse to see anti-civilization for what it is, rendering it invisible because it exists beyond the limits of their imaginations. There are also those who grow weary of the constant challenge to defend the society they have built, weakly accepting the comfort of a quiet grave for their civilization. Worst of all, every civilization produces those who eagerly cooperate in the task of burning them to the ground, with plans for rebuilding from the ashes tucked into their back pockets. The barbarians can always be defeated, if their allies within the city walls can be kept from opening the gates.

Industrial technology allowed the creation of Israel, a tiny democracy floating in a sea of barbarism, able to defeat all of its hostile neighbors in an incredibly short war. That same technology produced the media apparatus that anti-civilization relies upon, to commune with its allies and dupes around the world. In a very short time, atomic technology will put genocide back on the table in the Middle East… and our civilization will face a challenge that certain elements are already preparing themselves to lose.

The long-term significance of the Terror Flotilla is that it gives the worldwide Left one more dose of sedative to deal with the possibility of a coming horror in Israel. They’ve long since grown weary of dealing with the problems that tiny nation creates, and begun telling themselves it might just be better for everyone if it ceased to exist. Look how quickly the Left agrees with the Palestinian narrative that every problem in the Middle East is caused by the Jewish state… with the implied conclusion that all those problems would disappear if Israel does.

Anti-civilization wishes to convince the elite of the civilized world that its crimes are understandable, and the victim had it coming anyway. It’s already delighted to know the democracies of the world are less than enthusiastic about standing beside the little democracy it plans to drown. What we’re seeing now is part of the long prologue to something the global Left is slowly, quietly convincing itself will be the tragic but inevitable end to a complicated story. In truth, it will only be the beginning. Anti-civilization is both merciless, and relentless.

Beating Up on Israel

The ease with which the world’s governments condemned Israel over the flotilla incident has been something to behold. The Jerusalem-based correspondent for the Toronto Globe and Mail could not help but notice: “The speed and intensity with which governments around the world condemned the Israeli behavior appear unprecedented.” Why?

For starters, denouncing Israel for something like this is convenient for leaders who have failed repeatedly to do anything about more important and difficult problems such as Iran, North Korea or sovereign debt. The Religion of Peace Activists

An Islamic terrorist shoots up an American military base. Another tries to blow up a plane over Detroit. Still another attempts to bomb tourists in Times Square. But John Brennan, Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, remains confident that “jihad” is a harmless concept of Oprah-like uplift.

In remarks made in May, Brennan declared that “jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one’s community, and there is nothing holy or legitimate or Islamic about murdering innocent men, women and children.”

Who knew that John Brennan was an authoritative Islamic theologian? Has he shared his superior understanding of Islam with the imams who issue death edicts and call for violent jihad? They probably wouldn’t regard his definition of jihad as exactly pontifical. But then again, they are probably happy that the Obama administration has finally found a religion it considers “holy” — not Christianity, which it regards as a malign force in public life, but Islam, which it considers intrinsically peaceful.

This is what Israel doesn’t understand. Islam, as a religion of peace, produces only peace activists, though it has to be admitted that those peace activists on the Gaza flotilla wielded their knives with considerable confidence and skill. These Gandhis with iron rods didn’t exactly look like amateurs.

The video footage of the peace brutality confirms that the latest Islamic exercise in self-improvement did involve stabbing Israeli soldiers. But then, that certainly falls well within the range of Bill Ayers’ definition of peace activism. These guys were certainly no more dangerous than the Black Panthers. The peace activists even began their journey with a sweet song about “Khaybar,” according to journalist Melanie Phillips.

Khaybar is a reference to Islam’s peace activism in the 7th century when it slaughtered Jews in an oasis town near Medina. “Khaybar, Khaybar o Jews, the army of Muhammad will return,” goes the Arabic chant today.

Israel also doesn’t understand that the army of Muhammad, or, pace Brennan, peace activists of Muhammad, win the moment a nation takes defending itself against them seriously. Better to let the peace activists bash your head in with an iron rod than lose your “values” by, say, stopping them. Or as John Brennan put it in the above-mentioned speech: “remaining faithful to our values requires something else — that we never surrender the diversity and tolerance and openness to different cultures and faiths that define us as Americans.”

Given the choice between effective self-defense and diversity, our proud nation chooses diversity! But somehow, according to Brennan, Islamic terrorists are trying to bait us into reversing this equation. Why they would want that to happen, when they are benefiting from this mindless liberalism, Brennan doesn’t bother to make clear:

Even more than the attacks al-Qaida and its violent affiliates unleash or the blood they spill, they seek to strike at the very essence of who we are as Americans by replacing our hard-won confidence with fear and replacing our tolerance with suspicion; by turning our great diversity from a source of strength into a source of division; by causing us to undermine the laws and values that have been a source of our strength and our influence throughout the world; by turning a nation whose global leadership has meant greater security and prosperity for people in every corner of the globe into a nation that retreats from the world stage and abandons allies and partners.

That is what al-Qaida and its allies want — to achieve their goals by turning us into something we are not. But that is something they can never achieve, because only the people of America can change who we are as a nation. Al-Qaida can sew explosives into their clothes or park an SUV with explosives on a busy street. But it is our choice to react with panic or resolve. They can seek to recruit people already living among us, but it is our choice to subject entire communities to suspicion, or to support those communities in reaching the disaffected before they turn to violence. Terrorists may try to bring death to our cities, but it is our choice to either uphold the rule of law or chip away at it. They may strike our communities, but it is our choice to either respond wisely and effectively or lash out in ways that inflame entire regions and stoke the fires of the violent extremism.

Those wily Islamic terrorists are trying to manipulate us into defending ourselves! And this administration for one isn’t going to fall into their trap. But poor, benighted little Israel did. Its commandos made the mistake of not letting the peace activists kill them.

Mexico opens California office to provide ID for illegals

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican whose district includes Catalina Island, said handing out matricular cards will exacerbate an already dangerous situation.

“Handing out matricular cards to Mexicans who are not in this country legally is wrong no matter where it’s done,” he said. “But on Catalina it will do more damage. It’s a small island but there’s evidence it’s being used as a portal for illegals to access mainland California.”

Rohrabacher added, “If there were a large number of Americans illegally in Mexico and the U.S. consulate was making it easier for them to stay, Mexico would never permit it.”

Mexican officials with the consular office in Los Angeles could not be reached immediately for comment. The matricular consular identification card, is issued by the Mexican government to Mexican nationals residing outside the country, regardless of immigration status. The purpose is to provide identification for opening bank accounts and obtaining other services. But the cards are usually used to skirt U.S. immigration laws, since Mexicans in the country legally have documents proving that status, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.

In 2004 testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, FBI officials called the card an unreliable form of identification. The agency said that Mexico lacks a centralized database for them, which could lead to forgery, duplication, and other forms of abuse.

Officers with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said their agency was asked by Mexican officials not to enforce U.S. immigration laws on the island while the cards were being issued.

“It amazes me every time that the Mexican government has the gall to tell us what to do,” said an ICE official, who asked not to be named. “More surprisingly is how many times we stand by and let them. This is just an example of one of hundreds of requests we’ve had to deal with.”

In April, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies seized a boat carrying large quantities of marijuana and detained three Mexican nationals who said they were being smuggled into the United States.

The island has a sizable Mexican migrant population. Most are undocumented low-income workers.

Oil is spewing from beneath a British Petroleum oil rig into the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of about 1 million gallons a day. There’s no end in sight — although White House officials have made it clear their goal is to stop the leak before the midterm elections in November.

Obama now spends at least half of every day answering pointed, increasingly aggressive questions about the oil spill, most of them from his daughter Malia.

The president finally went down to take a look at the oil disaster last week –- which is weird because I didn’t even know there were golf courses near the Gulf. To show his concern, Obama is thinking about returning some of the nearly $1 million the oil industry donated to his campaign.

Ha, ha — just kidding. He’s not returning any oil money. But the situation has gotten so urgent that Obama did take time off from his golf game to praise the Phoenix Suns for protesting Arizona’s new immigration law.

He really did endorse the Phoenix Suns, which — like most of his endorsements — has resulted in their being eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers over the weekend. (Did I dream this, or was it just yesterday that President Obama was congratulating Al and Tipper Gore on their long and happy marriage?)

The media have been crowing that Republicans will lose the Hispanic vote forever if they support enforcing laws against illegal immigration, such as the Arizona law. To great fanfare, a poll was released last week showing that 67 percent of Hispanics oppose the Arizona law.

The headline on that poll should have been: “One-Third of Hispanics Support Arizona Immigration Law Despite Frantic Media Campaign to Convince Them It’s a Racist Plot Against Hispanics.”

Incidentally, 67 percent of Hispanics also vote Democrat. The exact same percentage of Hispanics who oppose the Arizona law voted for Obama over John McCain — who was championing amnesty for illegals.

Suck up to Hispanics with insane amnesty proposals; get one out of three Hispanic voters. Do the right thing and defend the country’s borders; get one out of three Hispanic voters. … Promise to make every Tuesday “Ladies’ Night”; get one out of three Hispanic voters. Offer them a choice between “Extra Crispy” and “Original Recipe”; get one out of three Hispanic voters.

Indeed, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday, only 52 percent of Hispanics oppose the law, while 37 percent support it. In other words, more Hispanics support the Arizona law (37 percent) than voted for John McCain (31 percent) -– which is the strongest argument for amnesty I’ve heard in my entire life.

Overall, 66 percent of voters support enforcing the border before discussing amnesty. A plurality — 48 percent to 35 percent — would like their own states to pass a law just like Arizona’s, despite the strong likelihood that the mainstream media will accuse them of being Nazi police states.

The New York Times’ Linda Greenhouse recently compared the Arizona law to Hitler’s policies toward the Jews. You remember how Jews were constantly sneaking across the border into Nazi Germany?

Finally, in keeping with the White House tradition of only releasing really good news on the Friday afternoon before the Memorial Day weekend, last Friday the White House announced that no one in the administration offered Rep. Joe Sestak a job to drop out of the Senate primary against Arlen Specter, despite Sestak’s claims to the contrary.

After a 10-week investigation, the Obama White House concluded that Bill Clinton, acting on his own, offered Sestak a nonpaying, advisory job with the administration.

It sounds like something Bill would tell Hillary after sneaking back into the house in the wee hours of the morning. “Honest, honey, I wasn’t out with a tawdry cocktail waitress. I was offering some guy I barely know a job at the Obama White House.”

So yeah, I know it sounds fishy, but if Bill Clinton says this is how it happened, that’s good enough for me. Why, Clinton hasn’t lied under oath in front of a federal grand jury for more than a decade.

Incidentally, why do so many Bill Clinton stories end with the words “nothing improper happened”? As I recall, the definition of “proper” gets pretty elastic when you’re talking about Bill Clinton.

It’s too bad Sestak turned down the offer, because if he had said yes, Obama could claim to have created at least one job, albeit unpaid.

I have mixed feelings about Obama trying to get Sestak out of the way in order to help Arlen Specter. As far as I’m concerned, the only good thing Obama has done so far is to endorse Specter, thus ensuring his defeat.

Maybe Obama should endorse oil spills.
