Muslim Mother Who Strangled Daughter Won’t Be Jailed, Judge Rules

Aminat Magomadova, 14, is seen in an undated photograph.

A Canadian judge’s decision to free a devout Muslim mother convicted of strangling her 14-year-old daughter with a head scarf has prompted growing outrage from victim’s advocates groups.

A suspended sentence was given to Aset Magomadova, 40, by Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Sal LoVecchio on Thursday, stunning a national victims’ group based in Toronto, the Vancouver Sun reports.

“I really strongly disagree,” said Joe Wamback, founder and chairman of the Canadian Crime Victims Foundation. “It sends a message to the rest of the community and the world that her daughter’s life was valueless.”

Wamback continued, “Even though this girl may have been a handful and trouble, that’s not the issue. The issue is human life.”

Magomadova was acquitted by LoVecchio in October of second-degree murder and found her guilty of manslaughter in the death of 14-year-old Aminat. The judge placed her on probation for three years with several conditions, including taking counseling for grief, depression and anger management, the Vancouver Sun reports.

Magomadova was charged after the incident at their home on Feb. 26, 2007, when Aminat refused to go to court to be sentenced for assaulting a female teaching at school. The devout Muslim mother, according to the Sun, claimed her daughter lunged at her with a knife in her sewing room, where she prayed several times daily. Magomadova said she reacted by wrapping the scarf around her daughter’s neck and told the girl twice to put the knife before she lost consciousness.

Chris Lewis: Regular Americans to Overtake the Establishment Politicians

Mr Chris Lewis, candidate for Wicomico County Council At Large, makes it clear he is not for the establishment or career politician. His platform is below:

Platform

My platform is pretty basic and it’s one you have been hearing from new Conservative candidates running for the first time all across the country. I believe the goals and mindset of all levels of government must be taken back to one of representation and service to the legal citizens of this great country.

Saying government is too big is an understatement. The public sector keeps growing while the private sector continues to shrink. So where is the money coming from to the pay the public sector salaries, especially when all levels of government are so reluctant to cut spending? Basically our bureaucracy is just too plain big and is mostly a good old boy network. We are top heavy with multiple people doing the same job and creating a huge redundancy. This is not true of all departments in Wicomico County. We need to evaluate them all individually and cut the wasteful spending of our tax dollars. Of course, the County Executive should have done this years ago. However, courage and politics rarely mix.

Even without the massive tax increases coming down the pike on January 1, 2011, we are already taxed too much at the state, federal and local levels. An easy way to create growth and prosperity is to lower taxes. I am confused why it is so hard for many politicians to understand the fact people want to keep the money they earn. Lower taxes allow small businesses to grow and to hire more people. Lower taxes also has a history of bringing in more tax money to the government. Raising taxes and fees ends up hurting everyone.

The basic concept is to take government out of the hands of politicians and put it back into the hands of the people of this county and this country. Instead of voting for the same people over again and things continuing to get worse, it is time to vote for the person who wants to make things better (note I did not say easier) and not an establishment politician.

A Few reasons why Christopher Derek Lewis is running for office.

BRIAN MURPHY, REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE FOR GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND

Candidate Murphy Renews Pledge to Enforce Maryland Immigration Laws, Including Program 287(g); Gains the Support of Frederick Sheriff Chuck Jenkins

Crofton, Maryland, July 14, 2010 – Brian Murphy, Republican Candidate for Governor of Maryland, continues to stand firm in his commitment to protect Maryland citizens and enforce Maryland Laws. Murphy is the only candidate to have formalized his commitment to Arizona’s Immigration Bill (SB 1070). And today, Murphy announced his support for statewide participation in Program 287(g). With this announcement, Murphy gained the support of Frederick Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, the only law enforcement official in Maryland to participate in 287(g).

Shown in a just released video, the two leaders discuss their shared vision and plans to partner together to curtail illegal immigration in Maryland. This endeavor would include applying a statewide enforcement of a program modeled after Sheriff Chuck Jenkins’ successful participation in Program 287(g), in which criminals detained by law enforcement officials in Frederick, who are later found to be in the United States illegally, are turned over to ICE authorities.

“[Through our participation in 287(g)] we have taken 650 criminals off the street of Frederick County. They have committed crimes, and they are in this country illegally,” said Jenkins. “Brian has my full support. We need a Governor of Maryland that is going to enforce the law.”

“Maryland citizens deserve a Governor who will enforce our laws. Program 287(g) is important to the safety of every Marylander, and I intend to promote the program as Governor. Illegal immigration is a huge problem in the United States, and it is a huge problem in Maryland. As Governor, I will be Maryland’s Chief Executive Officer, and Maryland’s Chief Law Enforcement Officer. And I will never shy away from either role,” said Murphy.

“Sheriff Jenkins is a leader in enforcing our immigration laws and he has my full support. He is doing a great service to ensure the safety of the citizens in Frederick, and in Maryland. His participation in program 287(g) must be emulated by other law enforcement officials. I look forward to working with Sheriff Jenkins on this critical issue,” said Murphy.

“I have complete faith in the men and women who serve our state in various public safety capacities. As I have said before, immigration is a public safety issue, it is a national security issue, and it is a law enforcement issue. It is not a race issue, and I will not allow it to become a race issue. I have confidence in our public safety officials to enforce our laws without prejudice,” continued Murphy.

Last week, Murphy signaled that law enforcement and accountability would be top priorities of his administration when he announced Mike Ryman as his running mate. Ryman, a former Marine Officer, FBI Agent, and Congressional Investigator, spent the majority of his career rooting out waste, fraud and abuse in the public and private sector. Ryman currently is a college forensics professor.

The wild and wacky world of Rep. Sheila Jackson

Whatever planet Sheila Jackson comes from, I think we should probably cut off US aid. We don’t need any more wacky aliens like her coming to visit us and share their particular vision of planet earth.

For instance:

Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee – who once famously asked where she could find photos of the American flag that Neil Armstrong planted on Mars – yesterday insisted, in stark defiance of basic facts of history, that “today we have two Vietnams, side by side, North and South, exchanging and working. We may not agree with all that North Vietnam is doing, but they are living in peace.” She went on to implicitly blame Republicans for this, but Gateway Pundit points out that the incident was far from the dumbest thing Jackson Lee did yesterday. The congresswoman also linked the Tea Party to the KKK in a talk with the NAACP:

And I thank you professor very much. I’m going to be engaging you with those very powerful numbers that you have offered on what the tea party recognizes, uh, or is recognized as. Might I add my own P.S.?All those who wore sheets a long time ago have now lifted them off and started wearing [applause], uh, clothing, uh, with a name, say, I am part of the tea party.

Jackson is obviously not from Mars – otherwise she would have known all about the flag that Neil Armstrong planted there. My guess is she’s not from our solar system. Only someone who can manipulate the space-time continuum would think that North and South Vietnam are existing “side by side.

BTW – you tea partiers better remove your tea party clothing. We wouldn’t want to mistake you for Kluxers.

Obesity Rating for Every American Must Be Included in Stimulus-Mandated Electronic Health Records, Says HHS

(CNSNews.com) – New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records–that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year–must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.

The obesity-rating regulation states that every American’s electronic health record must: “Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patient’s height and weight.”

The law also requires that these electronic health records be available–with appropriate security measures–on a national exchange.

The new regulations are one of the first steps towards the government’s goal of universal adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) by 2014, as outlined in the 2009 economic stimulus law. Specifically, the regulations issued on Tuesday by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Dr. David Blumenthal, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, define the “meaningful use” of electronic records. Under the stimulus law, health care providers–including doctors and hospitals–must establish “meaningful use” of EHRs by 2014 in order to qualify for federal subsidies. After that, they will be subjected to penalties in the form of diminished Medicare and Medicaid payments for not establishing “meaningful use” of EHRs.

How old is too old?

Only death can usually break an elderly or incapacitated politician’s hold on his congressional seat, but Sen. Robert Byrd’s long decline raised an uncomfortable yet unavoidable question: How old is too old?

In one of Byrd’s last visits to the Senate, both of his shoulders were propped up firmly by two aides as he slowly walked into the building with a silver walker. His hands shook, and his voice wobbled.

There is a fierce culture of protection of elderly lawmakers, yet the oldest members of Congress insist they are more powerful and more effective than ever — and they make no apologies about hanging on to their seats well into old age.

“I’m doing my job much better than 10 years ago because of being senior; I have many more people helping my job. Presidents are responding to me better,” said former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), who is 80 and preparing to seek his 21st term this November.
