Disturbing Trend in Pakistan: Christian Girls Raped, Forced to Convert to Islam

There’s a disturbing trend emerging in Pakistan.

A growing number of Christian (and even Hindu) girls are being raped and forced to marry and convert to Islam, according to Agenzia Fides (the information service of the Pontifical Mission Societies) via Continental News.

Hundreds of cases are filed each year with many more going unreported out of victims’ fear. In most reported cases, authorities refuse to prosecute the offenders.

For example, 14-year-old Sidra Bibi was reportedly abducted, raped, and impregnated by a Muslim man in her Pakistani village. When she went to local police, they reportedly would not accept her complaint and refused to investigate the crime.

The article points to numerous other examples, most of young Christian girls who catch the eye of local Muslim men. So why the trend? The site explains:

“The Christian girls are the weakest and most vulnerable, because their communities are poor, defenseless and marginalized, therefore easily exposed to harassment and threats. Often they do not even have the courage to denounce the violence” one sister told Fides.

Fides said in a society that tolerates discrimination of religious minorities, especially of women, the dominate religion and related social position are used to impose tyranny.

This tragic story follows on the heels of another The Blaze reported on just last week, which featured a graphic video a Coptic Christian girl being sexually assaulted in an attempt to Islamicize her.

Thanks Obama!

Back in February of 2009, Barack Obama said: “[The voters] didn’t vote for the status quo; they sent us here to bring change. We owe it to them to deliver.” How’s that change working out for us? He emphasized that we HAD to pass it in order to keep unemployment under 8%. So what did he do? He spent money that we didn’t have. Lots of it. Over $800 billion now and what do we have to show for it?

Compared to February of 2009, when Obama’s stimulus plan was passed, we now have 1.9 million fewer people employed in the United States. At the time 141.7 million Americans were employed but by May 2011, that number had dwindled to 139.8 million.

Among those who have been hit the hardest are black Americans … 96% of the black vote in 2008 went to Barack Obama. When Obama was inaugurated, the unemployment rate among blacks stood at 12.6%. How are things looking in May 2011? The unemployment rate for blacks is 16.2%. The American Thinker sums this up for us:

So, while the overall unemployment rate has risen by 1.5% since Obama took office, the rate of unemployment for blacks is 3.6% higher. Seen another way, the gap between the African-American unemployment rate versus that of the entire population has widened from 5.0% when Obama took office to 7.1% as of May 2011.

They aren’t the only Obama supporters to be affected like this. Read the article to see how those college students who thought Obama was so “cool” are faring in the job market. And the “poor”?

This is what you get when you put a community organizing hack in the White House who couldn’t create one stinking job if his ego depended on it. This is also what you get when that community organizing hack surrounds himself with people who are in love with government and believe that government is the solution to all of our problems.

Why Is the Economy Not Hiring?

It’s no wonder that Barack Obama can’t formulate a successful jobs plan. Apparently we are dealing with a man who believes that our economy is stalled because of … ATM machines? From the Dear Ruler:

“There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don’t go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you’re using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate.”

Now Barack Obama is semi-correct … there are “structural issues” with our economy. Most of these “issues” have to do with government – regulation, red-tape, taxes. Ann Curry in this interview with Obama cited a New York Times article where it states: “Since the recovery began, businesses’ spending on employees has grown 2 percent as equipment and software spending has swelled 26 percent, according to the Commerce Department.” But that’s where she stopped … also managing to throw in the fact that corporations are making “record profits.” But what Ann Curry failed to address and what Obama doesn’t want to admit is this fact as to why – labor costs. “Indeed, equipment and software prices have dipped 2.4 percent since the recovery began, thanks largely to foreign manufacturing. Labor costs, on the other hand, have risen 6.7 percent, according to the Labor Department. The rising compensation costs are driven in large part by costlier health care benefits.”

Maybe this story from Michael P. Fleischer, president of a small telecom firm in New Jersey, will help explain how the government plays a part in increasing the cost of hiring workers …

She makes $59,000 a year—on paper. In reality, she makes only $44,000 a year because $15,000 is taken from her thanks to various deductions and taxes, all of which form the steep, sad slope between gross and net pay.

Before that money hits her bank, it is reduced by the $2,376 she pays as her share of the medical and dental insurance that my company provides. And then the government takes its due. She pays $126 for state unemployment insurance, $149 for disability insurance and $856 for Medicare. That’s the small stuff. New Jersey takes $1,893 in income taxes. The federal government gets $3,661 for Social Security and another $6,250 for income tax withholding. The roughly $13,000 taken from her by various government entities means that some 22% of her gross pay goes to Washington or Trenton. She’s lucky she doesn’t live in New York City, where the toll would be even higher.

Employing Sally costs plenty too. My company has to write checks for $74,000 so Sally can receive her nominal $59,000 in base pay. Health insurance is a big, added cost: While Sally pays nearly $2,400 for coverage, my company pays the rest—$9,561 for employee/spouse medical and dental. We also provide company-paid life and other insurance premiums amounting to $153. Altogether, company-paid benefits add $9,714 to the cost of employing Sally.

Then the federal and state governments want a little something extra. They take $56 for federal unemployment coverage, $149 for disability insurance, $300 for workers’ comp and $505 for state unemployment insurance. Finally, the feds make me pay $856 for Sally’s Medicare and $3,661 for her Social Security.

When you add it all up, it costs $74,000 to put $44,000 in Sally’s pocket and to give her $12,000 in benefits. Bottom line: Governments impose a 33% surtax on Sally’s job each year.

I guess Ann Curry and Barack Obama failed to discuss THAT part of the story.

Michelle Obama shows a real flare for comedy

Forget the partisan hostility, self-righteous dietary bullying, excessive spending on wardrobe and travel or her royal entourage, FLOTUS has found a way to win over even her sharpest critic. Just as her husband’s popularity is sinking below pre-Osama levels, Mrs. O has unleashed a hilarious new stand-up routine. During a $1,000 a head fundraiser in Pasadena on Monday FLOTUS took the stage and delivered an over-the-top performance that will take its place in the Stand-Up Comedy Hall of Fame.

Warning: Do not read this comic masterpiece while attempting to drink tea as serious injury could result.

From Politico:

“I see the sadness and worry that’s creasing his face,” she said to a crowd of about 500 at the Pasadena luncheon organized by the Southern California Women For Obama. She described his worth (sic) ethic as “tireless,” according to pool reports.

“He reads every word, every memo, so he is better prepared than the people briefing him,” she said. “This man doesn’t take a day off.”

She said the next two years of campaigning would be difficult for the Obamas and their supporters. “It is not going to be easy, and it is going to be long,” she said. “Now more than ever we need your help to finish what we started.”

She also mentioned health care reform, the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. She praised “justice” in the killing of Osama bin Laden, and the withdrawal of troops from overseas.

Next time I hope they bring in a camera crew and put this comedic gem on film. Image Mrs. O’s dead-pan delivery of this material in front of a montage of her husband playing golf or basketball, partying in the White House with fawning celebrities, vacationing in Hawaii or Martha’s Vineyard, playing dirty tricks on our most valuable allies or sneaking away for burgers or chili dogs in defiance of Michelle just to name a few of Barry’s many leisurely pursuits.
