Robert and Patricia Haynes take care of their two children, who at the ages of 30 and 34 are more like children in adult bodies. That’s because they both have cerebral palsy, and rely on their parents to feed and change them — and likely will for the rest of their lives.
The Haynes family receives monthly checks from the state of Michigan through Medicaid, allowing the parents to care for their son and daughter themselves instead of institutionalizing them. But because a Michigan law classifies Robert and Patricia as “home health care workers,” they are considered public workers and therefore automatic union members — meaning the SEIU gets a $30 cut of the family’s Medicaid subsidy as union dues.
“We’re not home health care providers — we’re parents taking care of our children,” Melissa Haynes told Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK-TV:

What was going on in Zuccotti Park?
Some of the activity that went down there was well documented. There were allegations of sexual assault. There were the growing health concerns. And CBS 2 cameras caught topless women dancing there.
But what else may have been cooking?
CBS 2 has learned about some of the items that were removed from the park during yesterday’s raid.
Among the items found during the scouring of the park: At least two dozen hypodermic needles.
Numerous tents, books and other possessions were also recovered by sanitation workers and police officers during the raid.
Julie Wood with the Mayor’s Press Office said several truck loads of items had been removed from the park.

Protestor Ralph Wittenberg told TPM on Tuesday evening that authorities came through “searching for a so-called terrorist who shot at the White House, with no warrant, they went into everybody’s tents.”
A person handling media requests for Occupy DC confirmed the searches and said they were led by the Secret Service. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Talking Points Memo on Facebook
Police have been trying to locate 21-year-old Oscar Ortega Hernandez, a mentally ill man from Idaho who authorities say is connected to the incident, which apparently took place on Friday.
Agents began investigating after gunshots were heard on Friday night, but NBC Washington reports that agents didn’t discover the bullets until Tuesday morning.
One bullet hit an exterior window of the White House but was stopped by the bulletproof glass behind the historic glass. An additional round was found on the exterior of the building, the Secret Service told the news channel. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle near the scene.

The Montana Department of Employment, Division of Labor Standards claimed a small rancher was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to investigate him.
GOV’T AGENT: “I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them.”
RANCHER: ”Well, there’s my hired hand who’s been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.
Then there’s the mentally challenged guy. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here.
He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night so he can cope with life.
He also sleeps with my wife occasionally.”
GOV’T AGENT: “That’s the guy I want to talk to – the mentally challenged one.”
RANCHER: “That would be me.”
The Secret Service says a bullet hit an exterior window of the White House and was stopped by ballistic glass.
An additional round of ammunition was also found on the exterior of the White House. The bullets were found Tuesday.
The discovery follows reports of gunfire near the White House on Friday. Witnesses heard shots and saw two speeding vehicles in the area. An AK-47 rifle was also recovered.
The Secret Service says it has not conclusively connected Friday’s incident with the bullets found on the White House grounds. U.S. Park Police have an arrest warrant out for Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, who is believed to be connected to the earlier incident.
ABC has more on Ortega-Hernandez, who is described as mentally ill:

Harry Reid is a Democrat, therefore he believes that America’s greatness comes from government. It is because of this belief that he has been rendered incapable of comprehending why anyone would want LESS government in their lives. The fact that conservatives want less government regulations puzzles him to the extreme.
It is my belief that the majority of government regulations are created by someone merely trying to prove that they somehow belong on the payroll of a regulatory institution. Every once in a while they have to crawl out of their cubicle in some government building in DC and march to their supervisor’s office with some grand new regulation that will save hundreds of thousands of lives or bring some private sector miscreant under control:
