NBC’s Bob Costas Blames NFL Murder-Suicide on Guns

NewsBusters reported Saturday the tragic murder-suicide involving a Kansas City Chiefs’ football player and his girlfried.

During halftime of NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Bob Costas chose to lecture America about how guns were to blame for the incident.

BOB COSTAS: Well, you knew it was coming. In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, [unintelligible] sports clichés was heard yet again: something like this really puts it all in perspective. Well, if so, that sort of perspective has a very short shelf-life since we will inevitably hear about the perspective we have supposedly again regained the next time ugly reality intrudes upon our games.

Please, those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective. You want some actual perspective on this?

Well, a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock with whom I do not always agree, but who today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.

“Our current gun culture,” Whitlock wrote, “ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.”

“Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions, and their possible connection to football, will be analyzed. Who knows?”

Chiefs linebacker Belcher struggled with head injuries, alcohol and painkillers before he snapped and killed girlfriend

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker and former Long Island high-school star Jovan Belcher was allegedly battling football-related head injuries and booze, painkiller and domestic problems when he snapped and murdered his girlfriend before killing himself in front of two coaches Saturday.

A pal of Belcher’s told the Web site Deadspin.com that Kasandra Perkins, the mother of Belcher’s 3-month-old daughter, had threatened to leave him for good amid fighting between the pair.

The couple had only recently reconciled after Perkins left their rented house in Kansas City with the baby at one point to stay with friends. Perkins had returned, but friends said the relationship was still volatile.

Progressive ‘Gang of Six’: Higher Tax Rates for Wealthy ‘Just the Beginning’

Some of the most liberal House Democrats have formed a progressive “Gang of Six” to push for more tax increases, calling the potential tax increase on families making more than $250,000 “just the beginning” of things to come.

The group includes Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Keith Ellison (D-MN.), John Conyers (D-MI), Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), Mike Honda (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA).

“In response to the call for progressives to draw a red line in the fiscal cliff sand, here is our big picture stance on corporate and individual tax reform,” Honda said in a statement. “The expiration of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans is just the beginning of the discussion.”

They called for more economic “fairness” and outlined six tenets for progressive tax alteration that would ensure wealthy Americans “can share significantly” in the sacrifice that is needed.

The progressive “Gang of Six” wants a tax policy that is “revenue positive,” promotes “responsible corporate behavior,” has “fair rates” for the wealthy, reexamines “expenditures that benefit the wealthy,” protects the poor and elderly, and is a part of a “global system.”

Left-wing Radio Host Fantasizes About Beheading of ‘Tea Baggers’

On his November 26 program, left-wing radio host Mike Malloy, whose sick rants we here at NewsBusters have noted from time to time, fantasized about how he wished there were an angel of death that would sweep down across the fruited plain and destroy “tea baggers,” but which he meant Tea Party conservatives.

This was just one example in the latest batch of venom being spewed from left-wing radio hosts that our friend Brian Maloney of the Radio Equalizer blog discussed on the Nov. 28 edition of Hannity.

Syria’s civil war a cover for killing Christians?

A pair of car bombs that killed 38 people and reportedly injured 83 more in the mostly Christian and Druze town of Jaramana, Syria, has led some to allege the government is using the ruse of attacking “rebels” to cover a more sinister campaign of slaughtering Christians.

In a statement issued by Open Doors, USA, the human rights group reports that the Syrian government is placing the blame for the attack on “terrorists.” Yet the statement also says the residents of the Damascus suburb haven’t joined the fighting on either side.

Although the rebels have denied involvement in the attacks on Christian neighborhoods, Open Doors believes the attacks are aimed at Christians, rather than supporters of Assad’s government.

For some, however, this attack was personal.

A Syrian-American who has asked not to be named to protect relatives still living in Syria says the twin car bombings claimed the lives of family members.

“The explosions in Jaramana killed my uncle’s father in-law and another uncle’s wife’s cousin,” the Syrian-American said.

He says the intended targets of the attacks are obvious.

“Why can’t the facts be acknowledged here? Isn’t it obvious these bombing acts are disproportionately against Christians? The claims that the government does this to eradicate support for rebels, labeling them as extremists, are ludicrous,” the Syrian-American said.

He has some harsh words for U. S. foreign policy makers.

“It’s a cop out,” he said. “We simply allow the Gulf nations and Turkey to dictate our policy and altogether ignore the real elements behind this supposed uprising.

“This is the Muslim Brotherhood taking control like in Egypt, and they are certainly willing to use extremists. Their ideology isn’t all that far apart. This is the path now taken,” the Syrian-American said.

Congress urged: Investigate vote fraud now

GOP poll inspectors illegally removed from voting locations.

More than 100 percent of registered voters turning out to vote.

Computers reverting to a default Obama vote, regardless of whom the voter selects.

Absentee ballots counted while neutral observers are blocked from supervising.

Military ballots not delivered on time to active-duty servicemen and women around the world.

Illegal campaign contributions, deceased and illegal-alien voters, “lost ballots” and intimidation at the polls.

It’s enough to make voters ask: Does America still have free, fair and accurate elections?

After witnessing a flood of reports detailing incidents of likely vote fraud and abuse this election, WND has launched a petition urging Congress to open an independent and comprehensive investigation.

Liberal Hollywood Turns Its Back on Christmas Movies This Year

The Christmas season is a great time of year, isn’t it? Family everywhere, presents, snow falling, people bundled up by the fire and, of course, one of my favorite holiday treats is always readily available. No, not those delicious tiny people called gingerbread men (delicious as they are). I speak of Christmas movies.

We all love them. And they come every year … well, almost every year. It seems today’s multiplex is running a little short on Christmas cheer. In fact, the only major release I can even find coming this season is “Rise of the Guardians,” some animated adventure featuring a tatted up Kris Kringle. Other than that, there is an independent film from writer/director Edward Burns of “The Brothers McMullen” fame called “The Fitzgerald Family Christmas” … what the hell happened?

Christmas movies are almost always a slam dunk (unless they really suck). Now, they’re the last thing on Hollywood’s to do list. Where’s this generation’s “A Christmas Story?” And no, the recent straight to DVD sequel doesn’t count. Is Hollywood avoiding making these movies?

It’s most likely due to the fact that they are simply not interested. Hollywood is full of left wingers who don’t want to offend the non-existent crowd they bow down to by uttering something as hateful as, “Merry Christmas.”

They certainly are missing out on some scratch, though. Even recent Christmas movies that actually managed to get made end brought in a decent haul. Vince Vaughn, an outspoken Hollywood Republican, took the torch for Christmas movies in Hollywood for awhile and scored a hit with the 2008 comedy “Four Christmases.” Even Vaughn’s maligned “Fred Claus” the previous year didn’t fare badly at the box office – $72 million is a respectable tally.

French Mother Faces Charges After Sending Son Named ‘Jihad’ to School Wearing ‘I Am a Bomb’ T-Shirt

France appears to be transforming into a hotbed of radical Islam and antisemitism, with a reported 45% increase in anti-Semitic attacks in the first 8 months of 2012 than over the same time period in 2011. Thankfully the most recent incident resulted in no fatalities, but it’s certainly an interesting window into the mind of a radical.

The Times of Israel explains:

French woman is slated to face charges of “apologie de crime,” which can be translated as advocating violence, after sending her 3-year-old son, Jihad, to kindergarten dressed in a T-shirt bearing the inscriptions “I am a bomb” on the front and “Jihad. Born September 11″ on the back.

The incident took place on September 25 in the town of Sorgues, in the district of Avignon, southern France, but has only been reported now. The divorced woman’s brother, who allegedly supplied the offensive shirt, is set to face charges together with his sister. According to the French daily Le Figaro, the two were remanded in custody awaiting their trial, which was set for December 19.

According to reports, when the kindergarten teacher noticed the message on the clothing, she gave the child another shirt to put atop the offensive garment, and notified the authorities.

Local officials confirmed the child’s identity and date of birth.

According to the Avignon prosecutor Bernard Marchal, the mother “was very surprised by the reaction” to the incident, which she called a “provocation,” and said she did not expect the case would “assume such proportions.” He noted that neither the child’s mother nor his uncle were identified as radical Islamists.

ObamaCare’s Menu Labeling Regs Hike Costs and Stifle Creativity

The American Pizza Community, a coalition of the nation’s largest pizza companies, regional chains, and small franchise operators, is supporting passage of the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Ace of 2012, a bill to reform the new menu labeling regulations that have been included in ObamaCare. According to President Obama’s own Office of Management and Budget, the menu display requirements of ObamaCare rank as the third most burdensome statutory constraint enacted that year.

For the pizza industry, the new regulations require cumbersome and costly menu boards that must contain calorie information for each variety of whole pizza that is prepared in the restaurant. Ironically, however, customers of many pizza establishments will never even see the elaborate menu boards, which could cost about $5,000 per location, since most generally call in a delivery order without ever stepping foot inside the restaurant. Increased costs for menu boards are likely to be passed on to customers.

The regulations for the menu boards are so detailed that pizza shop owners must comply even with font sizes of lettering used, as dictated by the FDA. New products, changes in prices, or the addition of new pizza toppings would require the purchase of a new menu board. In addition, a proposed new product would have to be shipped to a lab for testing and certification at a cost of about $500.

Jennifer Hatcher, a senior vice president for the Food Marketing Institute, which represents 26,000 retail food stores, said, “It forces you into a central kitchen. It eliminates creativity and regional variation.”

Muslim Brotherhood ‘paying gangs to go out and rape women and beat men protesting in Egypt

Egypt’s ruling party is paying gangs of thugs to sexually assault women protesting in Cairo’s Tahrir Square against President Mohamed Morsi, activists said.

They also said the Muslim Brotherhood is paying gangs to beat up men who are taking part in the latest round of protests, which followed a decree by President Morsi to give himself sweeping new powers.

It comes as the Muslim Brotherhood co-ordinated a demonstration today in support of President Mohamed Morsi, who is rushing through a constitution to try to defuse opposition fury over his newly expanded powers.
