Lib Media Blasts NRA for Proposing Cops in Schools – Forgets Bill Clinton Proposed Same Thing

The liberal media is lambasting NRA President Wayne LaPierre for proposing cops in public schools, forgets that Bill Clinton proposed the same thing back in 2000.

Bill Clinton wanted $60 million for his “COPS in School” program.
The AP reported at the time, via Before It’s News:

“In our national struggle against youth violence we must not fail our children; our future depends on it,” the president said in his weekly radio address.

Parents, teens, teachers, youth workers and others will discuss research that indicates the preteen years set patterns for behavior and success in adulthood. Other subjects will include the risks, challenges and anxieties faced by young people today and what can be done to avoid dangerous or risky behavior.

“We need to talk about safety and security in every house in America,” Clinton said.

Republican critics said the federal government is a clumsy middleman in trying to cope with problems that should be addressed locally. They cast doubt on whether the teen conference would accomplish anything, accused Clinton of ignoring media violence and said he should support stiff jail sentences for anyone carrying a firearm in a violent or drug-related crime.

Clinton announced $40 million in grants for 23 school districts that he said have found successful, comprehensive approaches to help troubled young people.

“These districts are bringing school nurses and counselors together to respond to warning signs like depression or bullying,” Clinton said. “They are improving classroom security and expanding after-school and mentoring programs.”

Firefighters shot, killed responding to blaze

As the nation still mourns the campus massacre this month at a Connecticut elementary school, now a gunman in upstate New York set a trap and has shot four firefighters, killing two and seriously injuring two others, as they responded to a blaze this morning.

“It does appear that it was a trap that was set for first responders,” said a tearful Gerald Pickering, police chief of Webster, N.Y.

“These are volunteers who get up in the middle of the night to fight fires, they don’t expect to be shot and killed.”

Shots were initially fired at West Webster firefighters as they arrived at 5:35 a.m. to battle the blaze along Lake Road in Webster, some 10 miles west of Rochester.

The apparent gunman was found dead in an area outside the scene, but it remains unclear if he took his own life or was killed by a police officer. The gunman’s identity was not immediately released.

The dead are Lt. Mike Chiapperini, 43, a volunteer firefighter and the Webster Police Department’s public information officer, and Tomasz Kaczowka, who was in his early 20s.

The shooting comes just 10 days after the elementary-school massacre in Newtown, Conn., that killed 20 children and six adults.

“As you can see, emotions are extremely high,” Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks told reporters. “There’s a heightened awareness to this kind of violence in light of what happened in Connecticut, and I just want everyone to remember: It’s Christmas Eve. We have first responders, and we have families who are in pain and crisis today and we need to as a community keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo also addressed today’s shooting in Webster, calling it horrific and senseless.

“Volunteer firefighters and police officers were injured and two were taken from us as they once again answered the call of duty,” he said. “New York’s first responders are true heroes as they time and again selflessly rush toward danger in order to keep our families and communities safe.”

White House petition: Deport CNN anchor

A petition has been started on the White House “We the People” website demanding British CNN host Piers Morgan be deported back to England.

Morgan has been an inflammatory voice in the nation’s debate over gun-control legislation since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newtown, Conn., in which 27 people – including 20 young children – were killed, reportedly by Adam Lanza.

Outrage over Morgan’s pro-gun-control views began last week, when the host engaged in a heated debate with guest Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, on his “Piers Morgan Tonight” show.

“The argument I keep hearing is, ‘Well if everybody else was armed, it wouldn’t happen.’ It’s a load of total hogwash,” Morgan told Pratt. “How many more kids have to die, before you guys say, ‘We want less guns, not more?’”

But Morgan really raised eyebrows when, in the midst of a heated exchange, he turned on Pratt and said, “You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?”

Moments later he continued, “You don’t give a d— about the gun murder rate in America, do you? You don’t actually care.”

The next day, Morgan ruffled feathers again by responding to a Twitter message accusing him of being “gleeful” that the Sandy Hook tragedy happened to help advance his gun-control cause with a tweet of his own reading, “Of course I am, you moron.”

When the response was publicized, Morgan followed with another tweet calling his previous comment “obvious sarcasm.”

Apparently, however, some have had enough.

The petition to deport Morgan reads, “British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.”

The Hill reports Kurt Nimmo of fame started the petition.

Appeals court affirms sacking of college administrator over gay rights op-ed column

A federal appeals court has upheld the firing of a high-ranking administrator at the University of Toledo who wrote an op-ed column denouncing comparisons drawn between civil rights for racial minority groups and civil rights for gay people.

In its ruling, handed down last week, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit held that the administrator, Crystal Dixon, did not engage in First Amendment-protected speech when she penned the column for the Toledo Free Press in 2008.

The ruling affirms a previous lower-court ruling that the publicly-funded school did not violate Dixon’s right to free speech (or her 14th Amendment right to equal protection) by sacking her.

Condoms for free at 22 Philly city schools

Coming over the holiday break to about a third of Philadelphia high schools: clear plastic dispensers chock-full of free condoms.

The dispensers will be placed in the 22 high schools whose students had the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases, and condoms will be available to any student – so long as their parents did not sign a form opting them out of the program.

It’s a pilot designed to address “an epidemic of sexually transmitted disease in adolescents in Philadelphia,” said Donald F. Schwarz, the deputy mayor for health and opportunity. Since April 2011, the city has given away about four million condoms, and now, STD rates are falling.

Obama Claims Job Growth as Food Stamp Rolls Explode

President Barack Obama says job growth is rising like a rocket, so why aren’t food stamp enrollments sinking like a stone?

Mr. Obama claims he has created 33 months of job growth, but an analysis by Breitbart News finds that food stamp enrollments have grown for 40 months. Indeed, throughout Mr. Obama’s presidency, monthly food stamp enrollments have never declined by more than 1%.

Breitbart News analyzed monthly food stamp enrollment figures published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. To date, the Obama Administration has released 45 months-worth of enrollment figures for the food stamp program (officially known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP). Only five times has the number of food stamp recipients been less than the month prior, and only then by less than 1%.

When Mr. Obama was sworn into office in January 2009, 31,983,716 individuals received food stamps. That number climbed steadily for 28 consecutive months to 45,410,683. Then, in June 2011, it ebbed slightly by 226,756, a drop of less than 1%. In October 2011 and January, February, and April 2012, the figures dipped fractionally from the month prior, but then resumed their rise.

A Wall Street Journal report detailing the broken-down status of talks between President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner on the year-end “fiscal cliff” reveals that Obama threatened to use both his inaugural and State of the Union speeches to blame Republicans if there’s no deal.

Negotiations reportedly came to a standstill after Boehner proposed increasing the tax rate on top earners:

Mr. Obama repeatedly lost patience with the speaker as negotiations faltered. In an Oval Office meeting last week, he told Mr. Boehner that if the sides didn’t reach agreement, he would use his inaugural address and his State of the Union speech to tell the country the Republicans were at fault.
At one point, according to notes taken by a participant, Mr. Boehner told the president, “I put $800 billion [in tax revenue] on the table. What do I get for that?”
“You get nothing,” the president said. “I get that for free.”

According to Politico, Obama was referring to Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) and Senate Republicans who had already said they would be open to tax rate increases and therefore he didn’t need to concede anything.

‘Villain of Year’ arises from ‘evil’ day in Connecticut

The act took only minutes to carry out, but out of it arose the “WND Villain of Year” for 2012, Adam Lanza.

His shooting attack in Newtown, Conn., claimed the life of his mother along with five adults and 20 children at an elementary school. While the analysis likely will continue for years, several prominent leaders deduced the problem in seconds.

“All I can say is this was pure evil,” said longtime evangelist and prolific author Greg Laurie. “The heartlessness and wickedness of this man that did the shooting is really unimaginable.”

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy was of a similar mind, stating, “Evil visited this community today.”

The deaths make the attack by Lanza, described as a loner and possibly mentally troubled, the second-worst school shooting in American history. The attack trailed the Virginia Tech slaughter in 2007 in which Seung-Hui Cho, described on a memorial website for the victims as a “sick, evil loser,” killed 32 people, injured 29 and then, like Lanza, killed himself.

The Newtown massacre was worse than the 1996 Dunblane, Scotland, attack in which Thomas Hamilton shot and killed 16 children and one teacher at a primary school before killing himself.

Like Newtown, the victims mostly were ages 5 or 6.

Lanza topped other candidates for the “Villain” designation for 2012, including Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and American leftist George Soros.

Many of the “why” questions regarding Lanza’s decision to get up in the morning last week, kill his mother, then drive to the nearby elementary school and start destroying lives likely never will be answered adequately.
