University of North Alabama Step Up Security Due To Threat

FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – Tuesday morning, University of North Alabama students, faculty and staff received an alert that shook the university.

Kilby elementary school, a school associated with UNA, went into lockdown.

UNA police Chief Robert Pastula says he received information about someone posting on a social media app, called “Yik Yak.” The threat said they were going to come to UNA and “shoot it up.”

Pastula took action immediately.

“So we took all the precautions that we could to get everybody in the mode of thinking if I see something then call the police right away,” said Pastula.

Besides stepping up patrols, Pastula is working with the state trooper’s office, Yik Yak, Florence police and the Bureau of Investigation to find a suspect.
