NEW YORK — New York is losing the rat race. Citizen complaints about pests to the 311 hotline plus online reports went from 22,300 in fiscal year 2012 to 24,586 the next year, city Comptroller Scott Stringer said Sunday.

“Rats are a daily, stomachturning insult to New Yorkers — whether they’re scurrying over people’s feet on the sidewalks, invading homes where children sleep or swarming through restaurants,” Stringer said.

Stringer said an audit conducted by his office found that the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene isn’t managing its pest control program effectively. The audit said health inspectors didn’t always follow on their own protocols, and in 160 cases, no field inspection was conducted.

“Without a vigilant and timely response by the city to citizen complaints, this problem will come back to bite us again and again,” he said.

Majority control is up for grabs

It takes 32 seats to win a majority in the 63-seat state Senate, and Democrats and Republicans are closely divided. A few key races will determine the power structure. Here are some of them.

55 th District: Sen. Ted O’Brien, D-Irondequoit, is seeking a second term against Republican Rich Funke, a retired TV anchorman. O’Brien won an open seat in 2012 after Sen. James Alesi, R-Perinton, didn’t seek another term in a district that runs from the city of Rochester into northern Ontario County.

40th District: It’s an open seat being vacated by Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, Putnam County. It’s a battleground district that stretches across Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties. Democrat Justin Wagner, who narrowly lost to Ball in 2012, faces Republican Terrence Murphy, a Yorktown councilman.

41 st District: Sen. Terry Gipson, D-Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, is seeking a second…

This significant golf outing took place at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The president has been criticized frequently for playing the game amid national and global crises.
On Sunday a second U.S. Ebola diagnosis was reported.
In August, Obama came under fire for golfing shortly after speaking about the beheading of an American journalist by the Islamic State.
In 2008 Obama’s predecessor George W. Bush told Politico the reason why he stopped playing golf five years earlier: “I don’t want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf. I feel I owe it to the…

TBS: Austrian teens girls have tired of Jihad vacation

Austrian teens

Tired of their Middle East vacation of beatings, sexual depravity by Muslim animals, and honor killings, two pregnant teens are ready to return to the real-world War on Women.

It seems the two now feel duped by their Muslim boyfriends-turned-husbands who convinced them to go to Syria so they could learn about the true “peace” of Islam by joining the jihad.

The girls now say it was a “mistake.” What? Like wearing white after Labor Day? Fighting against all you have been taught to believe to go fight jihad against the civilized world is a wee bit more than a mistake…jus’ sayin’! It’s not like these girls were not aware of what pigs {apologies to pigs} these men are:

U.S. and local health officials want to set up dedicated hospitals in each state for Ebola patients, part of a new emphasis on safety for health-care workers after a nurse caring for an infected patient in Dallas tested positive for the virus.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also reconsidering its existing infection control protocols and will boost health-worker training with a series of calls and online seminars, officials said today.
“We’d like to have at least one hospital in every state that does feel they could manage a patient from start to finish,” said Abbigail Tumpey, the CDC official in charge of the education outreach. So far, the new system is only in the discussion stage, and one issue is that there are currently only four U.S. hospitals…

The FBI’s bogus report on mass shootings

The FBI’s bogus report on mass shootings Photo: Shutterstock

It’s disheartening to see the FBI used to promote a political agenda, but that’s what we got with the bureau’s release last month of a study claiming to show a sharp rise in mass shootings, a la Newtown, Conn.
The FBI counted 160 “mass” or “active” shootings in public places from 2000 to 2013. Worse, it said these attacks rose from just one in 2000 to 17 in 2013. Media outlets worldwide gave the “news” extensive coverage.
Too bad the study is remarkably shoddy — slicing the evidence to distort the results. In fact, mass public shootings have only risen ever so slightly over the last four decades.
While the FBI study discusses “mass shootings or killings,” its graphs were filled with cases that had nothing to do with mass killings. Of the 160 cases it counted, 32 involved a gun being fired without anyone being killed. Another…
