As the worldwide number of people infected by the Ebola virus continues to rise, yet another case has been confirmed in the United States. As all of us are trying to figure out how to adequately defend ourselves and our families against the possibility of Ebola coming to our community, the nation’s hospitals are preparing as well. While the preparedness of hospitals is extremely critical in a situation like this, some disturbing ideas have been brought up in the process.
According to Reuters, some hospitals are considering withholding treatment of certain patients if it’s necessary to preserve the health of nurses and doctors. Seeing as how the confirmed cases of Ebola in the United States have all been healthcare workers, it’s understood that they are at a higher risk of coming into contact with the disease. But actually letting someone die? That’s crossing a line.
