What happened to the conservative blogosphere?

That’s the title of a recent post by Eric Odom of Liberty News, who’s pondering the question after studying the decline of conservative blogs since he last did a survey in 2009.

Well, in one respect Eric is correct when he notes:

Truthfully, blogging takes a lot of work. Time is required and a lot of it if you want readers. Especially now that an active social media presence is needed to drive growth and personal influence.

He’s exactly right on that one, as I would estimate I spend between 15 and 20 hours a week working on this site. That’s not necessarily just doing the writing, but promotion, attending events I cover, and reading other news sites to pick up ideas and trends. I’ve been blessed with a mind which rarely encounters writer’s block, but as a tradeoff readers may notice I veer onto non-political avenues once in awhile. (The best case in point is my Delmarva Shorebirds coverage, mostly during the summer. Local music also finds its way here.)

Yet if I were to survey the many thousands of bloggers who have left the field since 2009, my wager is that a significant number of them have simply traded in their blogs for other communication venues, particularly Twitter. WordPress is pretty easy for me to work with, but it’s no match for Tweeting to those who used to simply link to another post and perhaps add a line or two of commentary. 140 characters is about the length of a good-sized sentence like the example you’re reading, and for many it’s enough to express a thought. If they need a little more space, there’s always a Facebook page. It’s far easier to be the master of a Facebook page or a Twitter account than the servant of a blog site where new content is demanded regularly.

There’s also the idea of having to build and keep an audience, which is difficult because it requires that same consistent approach. I once read that the key to blogging success is to write 2500 words a day, which is generally more than I put in. My output is usually about half that, although my Ten Question Tuesday segments so far have exceeded that 2500-word figure. Of course, I didn’t have to be creative for those aside from coming up with the questions and tenor of the conversation. To be able to write creatively at such a pace it would also be to have my sole source of income and thus far that’s not been a doable option.

It occurred to me that I had my own (partial) list of blogs from back around that time, as the also now-defunct BlogNetNews used to “rank” conservative websites in Maryland. This was the list I had from 2008 as I compiled my own ranking of these sites – out of those twenty I believe this site, Red Maryland, and The Hedgehog Report are the only ones still posting on a regular basis.

Blogger pleads guilty in traffic case

A local blogger pleaded guilty in Wicomico County District Court on Thursday to a charge of failure to control speed to avoid a collision.

Joe Albero, a 49-year-old Delmar resident, received probation before judgment for causing a Jan. 31 two-vehicle crash that sent a 57-year-old man to the hospital. The victim was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Albero was issued a traffic citation and requested a trial in late February. On Thursday, he was ordered to pay a $97 fine and $33 in court costs.

Rant on blogger raises eyebrows

News of the conviction of the man who confessed to killing an 11-year-old Salisbury girl found dead on Christmas Day took a back seat when the child’s grandmother publicly criticized a local blogger during a news conference.

Less than an hour after 31-year-old Thomas James Leggs Jr. pleaded guilty in the kidnapping, sexual abuse and brutal murder of the young child, the victim’s maternal grandmother stood at a podium outside the Cecil County Circuit Courthouse and thanked law enforcement officers, the State’s Attorney’s Office and the thousands of volunteers who search for the child who was abducted from her home Dec. 23, 2009.
“In my opinion”

Roberta Wechsler’s statement at Tuesday’s news conference took an unexpected turn when she openly scolded blogger Joseph “Joe” Albero for additional “crimes and assaults” against the deceased child and her family as well as the “exploitation of her murder” for personal gain.

“In my opinion, there is still a sociopathic criminal loose in our community,” Wechsler said. “He is the leader of a small cult of other sociopathic lemmings. From the moment of Sarah’s kidnapping, in my opinion, he has exploited her murder and her memory and tortured and pillaged my family. In my opinion, he is as much a criminal as Thomas Leggs.”

Wechsler also criticized Foxwell’s paternal aunt, Tracey Powell, whom Wechsler said assisted Albero in using the child’s murder as a means for wealth and fame.

The blogger said Thursday that he has abandoned plans to write about Foxwell’s kidnapping and murder.

Stock Markets and BP

                               Lets start with BP British Petroluim it has come out in the last couple of days, that a new estimated amount of oil being poured into the waters of the Gulf. They are saying 30 to 60 thousand Gallons a day is spilling in the ocean,  which equels making an Exxon Valdes every 5 days. We are now on day 59 of this massive leak of oil,   

                               BP is an 80 Billion dollar company, and this spill could exceed the value of the company. In Europe they are saying that BP could have to file for Bankruptcy before the well is capped.  just this week they are saying that BP could spend 81 Billion dollars to just clean up this oil in the Gulf. Thats not even touching on the amount of money that will make the people of the affected area of the Gulf made whole. The Macondo well is spilling about 2.50 Million Gallons per day into the Gulf.  

                            Today it came out the President of the USA gave Mr George Soro’s own oil company the one he owns 80 percent of in Brazil 2 Million Dollars, Mr Soro’s has 80 Billion dollars in an oil company so whats the 2 Million Dollars for well its for drilling in the Deep waters of of Brazil for oil.   Mr Soro’s has been one of President Obama’s advisors on this oil spill.   

                              This week an new Fund was started for the people affected by the oil spill in the Gulf, and its being headed up by Kenneth Feinberg. Yes the same Gentleman that headed up the 911 fund, money was miss handled Mr Obama chose Mr Feinberg he said for his fine work with 911 fund. more to come about BP .

                               Now onto Information about the stock Market this last 2 weeks. This week California that they have a zero cash flow, just by saying that they are saying they are broke. What will happen next is that we have to bail them out, so here is what I say to CA inadvance  of their request for a loan. Tighten your wallets, pay off your bills, use the tenth Admendment of the state Constitution. Alot of the state spending is their fault, the rest of it is the federal Governments Fault. So CA get some guts to tell the Federal Government to keep their Mandates, next go through all of your monthy bills, pick all the important ones pay for those. And get rid of all of the waste and fruad and abbuse. There are at least 16 other states in the same boat, and that boat is about to sink into an never ending sea of constant. Debt I say that you need a realistic  Budget. There are 22 other states that are in so bad a shape that they will be cutting back on retirement benifits for their state employees, not suprised that Idaho is one of those 22 States in Dire straits.

                           There is someone that could teach you how to stay within your means. I have no debt other then my land, which will be paid of in about the next 1 year and half. My house is not finished, why becuase I have not gotten a loan to pay for the supplies to finish it but it is getting done.

                                        this next couple of weeks I will finaly have a closet, to put clothes in. I have been living out of a suitcase for the 12 years, I have lived here. Now before all of you yell at my husband, for me not having closets. Dave is a hard working man, he does a lot of honey do’s arround here. He tried to get the closets done while I was on my Mothersday vacation. I just got back before they were done lol. Anyways back to what I was saying about being Debt free. We dont spend money we dont have. We save up for everything we want, I am putting a business together piece by piece. I save up for awhile spend some on the things I need for my business, then I save up some more. I am not like the Government can’t borrow money, or print my own money. So I have to live within my means.  I feel its way past the time the  States get there act together.

                               This week Greece has been downgraded to BA1 statice which is junk Bond statice , and next week france will have their rating lowered to AA statice from AAA the rating.  Are done by Moody’s and this week I found out whom owns most of Moody’s.  This week I Found out that Moody’s is owned by Halliburtan and they are owned by Warren Buffett owns stock in both Halliburtan and Moody’s. well I will end this blog for today and will write my next blog on http://NewsFreePress.wordpress.com I should have a blog there in about 24 hours from now have a great day.

There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America’s military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the “Obama problem.” Don’t dismiss it as unrealistic.

America isn’t the Third World. If a military coup does occur here it will be civilized. That it has never happened doesn’t mean it wont. Describing what may be afoot is not to advocate it. So, view the following through military eyes:

# Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”

# Top military officers can see the Constitution they are sworn to defend being trampled as American institutions and enterprises are nationalized.

# They can see that Americans are increasingly alarmed that this nation, under President Barack Obama, may not even be recognizable as America by the 2012 election, in which he will surely seek continuation in office.

# They can see that the economy — ravaged by deficits, taxes, unemployment, and impending inflation — is financially reliant on foreign lender governments.

# They can see this president waging undeclared war on the intelligence community, without whose rigorous and independent functions the armed services are rendered blind in an ever-more hostile world overseas and at home.

# They can see the dismantling of defenses against missiles targeted at this nation by avowed enemies, even as America’s troop strength is allowed to sag.

# They can see the horror of major warfare erupting simultaneously in two, and possibly three, far-flung theaters before America can react in time.

# They can see the nation’s safety and their own military establishments and honor placed in jeopardy as never before.

So, if you are one of those observant military professionals, what do you do?

Wait until this president bungles into losing the war in Afghanistan, and Pakistan’s arsenal of nuclear bombs falls into the hands of militant Islam?

Wait until Israel is forced to launch air strikes on Iran’s nuclear-bomb plants, and the Middle East explodes, destabilizing or subjugating the Free World?

What happens if the generals Obama sent to win the Afghan war are told by this president (who now says, “I’m not interested in victory”) that they will be denied troops they must have to win? Do they follow orders they cannot carry out, consistent with their oath of duty? Do they resign en masse?

Or do they soldier on, hoping the 2010 congressional elections will reverse the situation? Do they dare gamble the national survival on such political whims?

Anyone who imagines that those thoughts are not weighing heavily on the intellect and conscience of America’s military leadership is lost in a fool’s fog.

Will the day come when patriotic general and flag officers sit down with the president, or with those who control him, and work out the national equivalent of a “family intervention,” with some form of limited, shared responsibility?

Imagine a bloodless coup to restore and defend the Constitution through an interim administration that would do the serious business of governing and defending the nation. Skilled, military-trained, nation-builders would replace accountability-challenged, radical-left commissars. Having bonded with his twin teleprompters, the president would be detailed for ceremonial speech-making.

Military intervention is what Obama’s exponentially accelerating agenda for “fundamental change” toward a Marxist state is inviting upon America. A coup is not an ideal option, but Obama’s radical ideal is not acceptable or reversible.

Unthinkable? Then think up an alternative, non-violent solution to the Obama problem. Just don’t shrug and say, “We can always worry about that later.”

In the 2008 election, that was the wistful, self-indulgent, indifferent reliance on abnegation of personal responsibility that has sunk the nation into this morass.

First, lets start with immigration and the Views of Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge, he outlines a solution, here is his take.

Illegal immigration – A matter of National Security.
What are the measures Jim Rutledge would propose to address the issue of illegal immigration?
First, the federal government must fulfill its duty to enforce a uniform law of citizenship and immigration in every state. States and local governments that create safe-haven rules and refuse to enforce the laws against illegal immigration should be prosecuted in federal court.
Second, we must reduce and eventually eliminate any and all federal funding to states based upon the census or any other enumeration.  States must not be encouraged to count illegal immigrants to increase their portion of federal funding.  Furthermore, since representation in Congress is based upon the census, illegal immigrants skew proper representation for all American citizens.  Lastly, once States adapt to a lack of federal funds perhaps their own policies and behaviors towards illegal immigrants will change.
Third, to ensure a fair playing field the government should require all employers use the e-Verify system.
Fourth, we must improve border security.  This is a pressing matter of both national security and immigration policy.
Fifth, amnesty is not the answer. I will oppose amnesty law because they reward unlawful behavior and encouragemore illegal immigration in anticipation of the next amnesty law.
The long-standing failure of the federal and state authorities to apply uniform and consistent enforcement of our federal immigration laws has undermined our National Security and constitutes a breach of loyalty they owe to the citizens of the United States of America.
Congress has failed in its duty to hold the executive branch accountable for its refusal to enforce the immigration laws that they have sworn to uphold as the supreme law of the land.
The time has come for the citizens of Maryland to hold their representatives accountable and demand loyalty to the citizens whom they have been elected to serve.
Jim Rutledge Pledges Support to Pat McDonough in Maryland Effort to Fight Illegal Immigration
Jim Rutledge Criticizes Barbara Mikulski for Supporting Amnesty Bill
FOREST HILL, Maryland – Republican U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge of Maryland joins Delegate Pat McDonough in the fight to defeat amnesty legislation for illegal immigrants and secure the Southern border with Mexico. McDonough is encouraging Marylanders to sign a petition in support of the Citizens of Arizona. Jim Rutledge who possesses years of experience with constitutional law and criminal procedure believes the new Arizona law is reasonable and constitutionally sound. States like Maryland and Arizona have waited for years for Washington to enforce immigration laws but have failed to do so. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said, “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created an unacceptable situation.” Jim Rutledge opposes the attempt by Barbara Mikulski and Harry Reid to pass the Amnesty Bill. Washington needs to enforce federal laws and not reward those who break our laws and threaten the security of our nation.

As you can see, there are undeniable differences between the two candidates, one is a staunch conservative and strong regarding our Constitution, while the other candidate, while he has some good views, does not match up well on the issues hitting our country hard right now.  Jim Rutledge is a hard backer of our Second Amendment right to bare arms and protect ourselves and out property, there is nothing listed on Camp Wargotz regarding our second amendment rights.  Dr Wargotz fails to execute the strength needed regarding Illegal Immigration right now.  Whilst I have invited many of the candidates to come down and support our Illegal Immigration Rally, representatives from Camp Rutledge will be there, along with some others.  Don Murphy, a huge supporter of Dr Wargotz said he may show up.  I can give you more comparisons of the two, and it would seem likely, that the GOP has thrown it’s weight behind Camp Wargotz, while I continue to ensure this does not happen.  Why do you ask?  Because I want someone who will protect my back, my families back and will work with us to help rid our Nation and State of the Lawless activities promoted by illegal immigration.  I asked Camp Wargotz his stance on Illegal Immigration, all I got was, he is against Illegal Immigration, but no solutions.  Nor have I heard him come out and Support Pat McDonough on his introducing of the Arizona Bill next year in our legislation if he is re-elected.  Help Save Maryland, Washington County Citizens United, People For Change, Alipac, Numbers USA, IRLI, FAIR and other groups will be putting their support behind candidates that look to change the way illegal immigration is handled in our Country.  I don’t want someone to just say, I am against Illegal Immigration, I want to see your plan on fixing it.  Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge has a plan, and if we are lucky enough to have him meet Barbara Mikulski in the General Election, he is the only one who will be able to expose her on this issues.  Camp Wargotz on the other hand has a great feel and take on the Healthcare bill, but I don’t see where this is going to make a difference, unless we can take the fight to the Supreme Court.  I like Eric, none of it is personal, it’s about Politics and who fits.  In my mind, it’s Jim Rutledge.  I also like Corrogan Vaughn, but I believe, he should bow out and run for our General Assembly.  He could make such an impact as one of our delegates.  He truly fights for the people and it’s not about smoke and mirrors, its about people first.  He is the right man, wrong timing.  I feel badly for him.  He is one of the nicest gentleman I have gotten to know over the last year and I wish nothing but the best for him.  He reminds me of MLK, yes that’s right, The Civil Rights Leader, ask me why, I will tell you why.  His roots and passions are deep, run red, white and blue like myself.  Family man first above all else.  As my good friend Ron Miller told me, God has other plans for him, I believe God has plans for Corrogan in our General Assembly.  Such passion and Charisma.  So down to earth, your every day meat and potatoes guy.
So this is my synopsis as to why I am supporting Jim Rutledge for our next US Senator from Maryland, his passion for protectionism is unmatched.  His drive and determination to help restore our pride back.  His stance on Illegal Immigration that is the heart of this year’s election now.  I know all of my friends read my blog, Corrogan, Jim and Eric, so make no mistake, this is not personal, it’s about how I view the candidates and why I will be backing who I am backing.  Attacks on me just because I don’t support you, add less credibility in my eyes.  If politics is more important than friendship, then those are friends I can do without.

What are the measures Jim Rutledge would propose to address the issue of illegal immigration?First, the federal government must fulfill its duty to enforce a uniform law of citizenship and immigration in every state. States and local governments that create safe-haven rules and refuse to enforce the laws against illegal immigration should be prosecuted in federal court.
Second, we must reduce and eventually eliminate any and all federal funding to states based upon the census or any other enumeration.  States must not be encouraged to count illegal immigrants to increase their portion of federal funding.  Furthermore, since representation in Congress is based upon the census, illegal immigrants skew proper representation for all American citizens.  Lastly, once States adapt to a lack of federal funds perhaps their own policies and behaviors towards illegal immigrants will change.
Third, to ensure a fair playing field the government should require all employers use the e-Verify system.
Fourth, we must improve border security.  This is a pressing matter of both national security and immigration policy.
Fifth, amnesty is not the answer. I will oppose amnesty law because they reward unlawful behavior and encouragemore illegal immigration in anticipation of the next amnesty law.
The long-standing failure of the federal and state authorities to apply uniform and consistent enforcement of our federal immigration laws has undermined our National Security and constitutes a breach of loyalty they owe to the citizens of the United States of America.Congress has failed in its duty to hold the executive branch accountable for its refusal to enforce the immigration laws that they have sworn to uphold as the supreme law of the land.
The time has come for the citizens of Maryland to hold their representatives accountable and demand loyalty to the citizens whom they have been elected to serve.

Starve the Beast?

What would happen if U.S. businesses stopped paying federal payroll taxes? What wou;d happen if we went along with the idea thrown about by Neal Boortz and allow people to understand how much money the federal government takes from them each paycheck? Would they get the idea of how great of an idea the fairtax is if they got 100% of their paycheck for a month or two? Would the federal government get the idea of how angry the American people are if they were starved from their monthly allowance from all American businesses?

“Think Progress” Blog and George Soros

“Astroturf” is one of those common refrains used by the left when they want desperately for opposing views to be discredited. The George Soros funded mouthpiece non-ironically lobbied just that charge at a new, anti-net neutrality website called NoNetBrutality.com this week.

Think Progress claimed the website was part of a “secret plan to attack net neutrality.” CNET News showed otherwise:

On its Think Progress blog, the liberal advocacy group announced it had “obtained” a PowerPoint document “which reveals how the telecom industry is orchestrating the latest campaign against Net neutrality” through a pseudo-grassroots effort. The story was echoed on Slashdot, Boing Boing, and innumerable pro-regulation blogs.

There’s just one problem with Think Progress’ claim: It’s not, well, accurate.

In a case of truth being stranger than astroturf, it turns out that the PowerPoint document was prepared as a class project for a competition in Florida last month. It cost the six students a grand total of $173.95, including $18 for clip art.

And just how secret was this nefarious plot?

Not only was the PowerPoint document presentation no secret, but it was posted publicly on the competition’s blog, along with an audio recording of the event in Miami where the student contestants presented their ideas to the judges.

The online liberal echo-chamber then picked up the false story and ran with it.

Big government regulation supporters also descended upon the social media promotion efforts of NoNetBrutality with some brutality of their own. They declared everyone who doesn’t want government involved in regulating internet speech to be “corporate shills” and otherwise engaged in ad hominem attacks. One emailer to the website even suggested that it was surprising anyone supporting “such obvious transparent moral poverty” wouldn’t want to cut their throat any time they looked in the mirror. These guys really take their government regulation seriously.

Kristen McMurray, one of the six creators of the site, knows that all too well and wasn’t surprised by the pro-regulation tactics. “Labeling me a ‘corporate shill’ avoids any real debate on net neutrality,” she said, “so I’m not surprised it degenerated into name calling.” McMurray added, “Think Progress should have practiced good journalism and fact checked before reporting on our school project.” As the social media arm of an organization that claims to want to “shape the national debate,” Think Progress has a responsibility to ensure that it does so in an accurate and honest manner. It seems like good journalism, honest debate and big government advocacy just don’t go together.
