Obama: VA model for medical system

Even when he was campaigning for Congress in 2000, President Obama unveiled a sweeping health-care plan that modeled aspects of the Veterans Administration’s medical system.

As WND reported, eight years later, during his transition into the White House, he proposed in his “Obama-Biden” plan to “make the VA a leader of national health care reform so that veterans get the best care possible.”

In his 2000 congressional campaign, Obama proposed health-care legislation on the federal and state level to lower the costs of prescription drugs for seniors. His plan called for the government to buy the medication in bulk and resell it to seniors at lower prices.

On Jan. 20, 2000, the Chicago Defender reported Obama’s prescription drug plan was modeled after a similar program run by the VA. The Veterans Health Care Act in 1994 calls for drug companies to give a 24 percent discount to the VA.

Miltia Ready To Start A New American Revolution?

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s decades-long battle against the federal government over grazing rights has heated to the point where militia groups have joined in and taken up spots against the feds who’ve circled his land — and talk is, they’re not afraid to open fire.

A spokesman for the one of the militia groups said as much to local 8 News Now: I’m not “afraid to shoot,” he said.

Margaret Houston, Mr. Bundy’s sister and a cancer survivor, said at a town hall gathering this week that the situation “was like a war zone” and that she felt “like I was not in the United States,” The Daily Mail reported.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal described it this way: “Serious bloodshed was narrowly avoided,” in a story about how dogs were unleashed on a woman who was pregnant while the rancher’s son was hit with a taser.

On Tuesday, armed Bureau of Land Management agents stormed Mr. Bundy’s property, escalating a court dispute that’s wound for two decades over the rancher’s refusal to pay for grazing fees.

Obama Announces Executive Orders to Limit Gun Ownership – US Veterans Hardest Hit

The White House inched forward Friday with two new executive actions aimed at boosting the federal background-check system. The new laws will make it more difficult for “anyone who may pose a danger to themselves or others” to purchase a gun.
NewsMax reported:

Under the measures announced by the White House, the Justice Department will propose changes to the federal background check system to clarify who under U.S. law is prohibited from possessing a firearm because of mental health problems.

The Department of Health and Human Services also will propose a regulation aimed at making it easier for states to submit information about the mentally ill to the federal system, without blocking all people who seek mental health treatment from owning guns.

“The administration is committed to making sure that anyone who may pose a danger to themselves or others does not have access to a gun,” the White House said in a statement. “The federal background check system is the most effective way to assure that such individuals are not able to purchase a firearm from a licensed gun dealer.”

The new laws may make it even more difficult for US veterans to own guns.

US veterans started receiving letters from the government last year informing them that they are disabled and not allowed to own, purchase or possess a firearm. If the veteran does decide to purchase a firearm he will by fined, imprisoned or both.
This comes on page 2 of the VA letter.

It Begins… Army Tells Soldiers Not to Say “Christmas”

Todd Starnes at FOX News reported:

Don’t say Christmas.

That’s the message that was conveyed to a group of soldiers at Camp Shelby by an equal opportunity officer from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, according to a soldier who attended a recent briefing.

“It’s unbelievable that the Army would ban ‘Christmas’ like it’s a bad word,” said Michael Berry, an attorney with the Liberty Institute, a legal firm representing the unidentified soldier.

Two weeks ago, a routine meeting was held at the Mississippi base with various leaders of the 158th Infantry Brigade. During the meeting, they discussed an upcoming Christmas football tournament. The equal opportunity officer immediately objected to the usage of the word “Christmas.”

“Our equal opportunity representative stopped the briefing and told us that we can’t say Christmas,” the soldier told me. “Almost the entire room blew up. Everybody was frustrated. The equal opportunity rep told our commander that not everyone celebrates Christmas and we couldn’t say Christmas celebration. It had to be holiday celebration.”

The soldier said there was a brief, but heated discussion about political correctness. At one point, the equal opportunity representative tried to deflect the criticism by pointing out it was the Army’s rules – not hers.

Government Targets Business over ‘Thank a Veteran’ Sign

A sign hovering above a Huntington Beach saloon for the last six years, thanking veterans for protecting our freedom, has been ordered to be removed. When he arrived at work on Monday, Johnny Kresimir, the owner of Johnny’s Booze and Pool, discovered a citation had been placed on his door. A city spokeswoman for Huntington Beach said the establishment lacked the proper permits to display the sign that reads, “Thank a Veteran for your Freedom.”

‘Ugly’ women seem more competent

Attention, pretty girls — Uncle Sam does not want you!

An Army colonel has called for pictures of only “ugly” women to be used in promotional material, because they are perceived as more competent than sexy female soldiers, according to Politico.

In leaked e-mails, Col. Lynette Arnhart says pretty girls should not be used to promote the Army because they look like they wouldn’t want to “break a nail.”

“In general, ugly women are perceived as competent while pretty women are perceived as having used their looks to get ahead,” the colonel wrote.

Justin Doolittle Hates The US Military, Freedom and the United States, Thank You Salon.Com

Left-leaning news website Salon.com is under fire for publishing a contributor’s article on Veterans Day that instructed individuals to stop thanking members of the military on his behalf for their service.

The article, titled “Stop thanking the troops for me: No, they don’t ‘protect our freedoms‘” and authored by freelance writer Justin Doolittle, was featured on Salon’s front page Monday and questioned why the media and professional sports are “constantly jamming military fervor down our throats.”

“The ‘freedoms’ most Americans think of when they hear the term are enshrined in constitutional and statutory law,” the article said. “They are in no way dependent on the size, scope or even the existence of the U.S. military.”
