A man sentenced to 15 years for robbing a Delaware pizzeria has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant accusing the employees of using “unnecessary” force when they tackled him after he tried to rob the eatery at gunpoint.
The incident occurred in November of 2010 when now-23-year-old Nigel Sykes entered through the back door of Seasons Pizza and made off with $140.
As he was about to walk out, one of the employees reportedly grabbed him from behind while another grabbed his gun. The gun went off, nearly striking another employee.
“After a short struggle, the defendants successfully obtained the handgun from me,” Sykes, who has no lawyer, said in his self-written complaint. “That is when the assault began.
