A process is currently in motion to put a massive industrial-sized house operation at the northwest corner of Walston switch and Shavox Roads.

 

At least four to eight 60-foot by 600-foot chicken houses are planned, which if approved would result in millions of chickens processed each year and thousands of trucks transporting chickens on Walston Switch and Shavox roads.

 

there is a “Protect the Paleo Channel” Public Forum, which will be held March 22, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Wicomico youth and Civic Center to address this issue.

The $19 Million Dollar Question in Maryland

Over the past few days mayoral candidate Joe Albero has taken to his Salisbury News website – you know, the one with no authority line – and thrice bashed incumbent Jim Ireton for scheming to raise city taxes and fees by $19 million. But is Albero correct in blaming Ireton?

Yes and no. One could extend blame to the party Ireton is a member of and the politician he supported twice for President for signing an Executive Order compelling the federal government and states to increase their tempo in restoring Chesapeake Bay. It allowed the EPA great latitude in determining a course of action (like these marching orders show – orders which include the stick of possibly “withholding, conditioning, or reallocating federal grant funds”) and established a “pollution diet” which had little to do with maintaining the economic viability of the region but more to do with pie-in-the-sky goals for the state of the Bay twelve years hence. This supposedly would “ensure that all pollution control measures needed to fully restore the Bay and its tidal rivers are in place by 2025.” (Yet, as I’ll discuss in a bit, that won’t be the end of the road. Far from it.)

Thus, the state of Maryland became a greater participant in the effort – not that Governor Martin O’Malley, who Ireton also supported for election twice, was exactly going to be dragged kicking and screaming into the prospect of further power over and control of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay watershed population.

But it can be argued Ireton has his hands tied, and if Joe Albero wins? He still has to deal with it. As it turns out, this $76 million effort is just a portion of Salisbury’s share of costs to enact the Phase II Watershed Implementation Plan, lovingly presented to the EPA by the state of Maryland last year. This led to the mandate from the Maryland Department of the Environment for local officials to prepare a plan for Wicomico County:

As requested by MDE, each of the twenty‐three counties and Baltimore City were instructed to prepare a Phase II Watershed Implementation Plan that details / demonstrates how each jurisdiction will do their part in improving the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries across Maryland.

Liberal Threatens To Sue This Blog Over Daily Times Opinion Piece

We printed an opinion piece in the Daily Times From Ron Pagano, the(assumed) leader of the occupy Salisbury movement. His last comment was this:

A sneak attack (on our county taxpayers)

Two similar (but not identical, thus not crossfiled) bills have been introduced in the General Assembly this term, measures which would thwart the will of voters in Wicomico County and elsewhere in Maryland.

First among them was SB740, which was introduced February 3 by Senator Richard Madeleno of Montgomery County, which is one of the counties that inhibits property tax collections in some manner. (The others are Anne Arundel, Prince George’s, Talbot, and Wicomico.) It’s a bill which would simply allow counties which have this sort of cap to circumvent it, provided the money goes to the county’s school board.

But HB1412, which was introduced on February 28 – and got the extraordinary benefit of a hearing just two days after introduction – would do grave damage to the financial bottom line of several counties, most particularly Wicomico. It’s notable that Delegate Norm “Five Dollar” Conway is a co-sponsor of the bill, which is led by Delegate John Bohanon of St. Mary’s County and also backed by members from Baltimore City and Baltimore, Howard, and Montgomery counties.

Apparently this will affect Wicomico County in two ways: first of all, their maintenance of effort (MOE) won’t come down to a more realistic level based on tax revenues – for FY2012 they were over $14 million short of the $50 million MOE goal, the largest percentage of any of the state’s 24 counties – and our MOE will likely automatically increase up to 2.5% each year after FY2015 because we’ll almost certainly be considered a “below average” county. At a starting point of $50 million, that’s an extra $1 million we would have to come up with (or roughly 1.5 cents per $100 extra on property tax rates, based on what the county currently receives) annually. That’s also faster than our revenue cap would allow, since it’s based on an increase of no more than two percent.

But the other problem the bill will create is shorting other areas of the county’s budget which depend on the state – according to the fiscal note for HB1412, “(i)f a county does not fully fund MOE and has not received a waiver, the county’s income tax revenues will be intercepted and sent to the school board.” In other words, we lose the local control we have on state funding.

Now some may argue that because the state is providing the funds, they should call the tune. I don’t disagree with that, but if they want to play that game I’d like to see an opt-out provision. Call their bluff: okay, if you want to take away our local control of the money then we don’t want to send you our taxes. Obviously that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

And the problem most people have with the local Board of Education isn’t one of necessity. Few would argue that we don’t need public education as an option.

But there are a lot of us who feel money should follow the child, regardless of where the parents wish to send them to school. By bringing that element of competition into it, schools are forced to improve and provide more bang for the buck. Certainly I’m aware that Wicomico County schools have been studied and found to spend a below-average amount on administrative costs, but it certainly seems to me that the things the Board of Education likes to project as cuts are the ones which provide the greatest shock value. Yet what would our financial situation be like if we simply increased the average class size to 25 students? How much help would that provide?

Folks, I get hundreds of threatening messages from this guy on a regular basis telling me I’m going to jail, I’m being reported for this or that. The guy is a nut case.

As for the Marciarello comment, many believe this to be true. While I personally do not agree with it, if someone else is out there saying it they must know something I don’t.

Many have also stated Jonathan has a deep connection with Joel Todd. Jonathan helped Joel out in his election and bashed Oglesby day in and day out, ANOTHER politician who was elected while Taylor lost with an incumbent. What’s that tell you Folks. ALL politicians should be VERY careful who they tie themselves with because Taylor is a bad luck charm, no question about it.

I’d like to believe Jonathan and Joel’s connection isn’t true either but I too have connections all over the place, so its possible.

Yup, he collects money from the government you and I pay for and claims he’s handicapped. Get this, he doesn’t have handicap tags. If he was permanently handicapped he’d have permanent tags. Instead, he has a sticker and parks in spaces and doesn’t display the sticker from the mirror. I have seen him at plenty of events and he’s not in a wheel chair. It’s only when he wants attention. Does this mean if I send the County Council an email complaining about somethin in the County that it will be given to joe albero for some reason? Some ethics law must have been broken here. well, i will hand it to ya, you threw yourself into the mix as well. so can we expect nothing from shields or mitchell finding their way to you as well? i really hope this works. i disagree with almost all of your views, but if you can pull this off, i will be very impressed.

You know JT, this post of Monsters was so predicable. First, Monster can’t resist slamming you, secound the Earl & Charlie show has now wound down, so Spew click count is low, almost non-existent. What better post could the “Monster of Spew” put up for feeble ego-feeding peep sympathy, and it would also serve to start a fresh non-stop “Mr Anonymous Monster” post after post going again, plus his usual Joseph “The Monster” Albero posts that agree with his “Ass-Ed-ness”. Monster loves lying and fanciful story time. But it will all come to a grinding halt, if the truth ends up being that there was no veteranarian, nor a visible on-line bill/receipt showing the $6,000 operation for “In Pain Charlie” with the veterinarians name attached. No Veterinarians name or praise for the business? That’s a strange thank you from Mr. Integrity, huh? Especially after all the unnecessary upheaval that Monster intentionally created for all of those charged with the taking care of, Ocean City, Maryland and its residents. If it should turn out that part of the story wasn’t true, then the full weight of a contrived story, will have to fall squarely on the shoulders of Mr. Monster the “Pretend Investigative Slogger”. We’re waiting for a name Monster, where is it? JT will put it up, if you or Earl have one, after he checks it out. I don’t think you do.

Don’t think so 2:59. They prosecute felony, misdemeanor and juvenile cases/crimes. They don’t investigate questionable actions of elected officials if it’s not of a criminal nature.

I believe the key word here is “State”, 3:24. This office is tasked with dealing with state employees and elected officials as opposed to county.
BTW-hasn’t the state has been on a mission to have the different counties and municipalities come up with a uniform “code of conduct”/ethics code?

Boy oh boy is JoeBoy ever off on a rambling rant! Yep, Joey no matter how you slice and dice it or spin and twirl it the facts is JT SET you up and you fell right into it!
Not only did Joey fall into it, but so did atleast one morally inept, no good childish county council member, who I hope is feeling really proud of themselves at this moment.
